Raising the groundforce to drive sustainability transitions

Monsoon Academy turns deep research on technology and society into actionable career skills. We are preparing the next generation to lead a just transition and unlock the opportunities of a $15 trillion green economy.

We bridge the gap between ambition and capacity.

The Global South does not lack ambition but it requires the human capacity to unlock the financing.
India has committed to Net Zero by 2070; policies are written, and trillions in capital are beginning to move.
India alone requires 30 million new green jobs by 2050 to meet its climate targets.
While 85% of Indian youth desire a career in the green economy, only 4% possess the technical skills to be hired.

Through deep knowledge and foundational mindsets

Sustainability is about more than technical solutions. It is about how we relate to the world and to one another. We help cultivate five essential qualities in every learner.
Collective Agency

Collective Agency

We view change as a collective endeavour. Our learning ecosystems are designed to foster collaboration, peer support, and shared ownership of outcomes. Learners are encouraged to build solidarities, work across disciplines, and act in concert with others to drive systemic transformation.

Future-Mindedness

Future-Mindedness

In an era marked by rapid transitions and deep uncertainty, we prioritise the ability to think and act with foresight. Our programs incorporate scenario thinking, systems mapping, and anticipatory frameworks that enable learners to orient their actions toward long-term, sustainable futures.

Behavioural Change

Behavioural Change

Sustainable change requires shifts in behaviours, norms, and institutional cultures. Our pedagogy integrates behavioural science enabling learners to design interventions that are not only technically sound but also socially resonant and actionable.

Optimism

Optimism

Amid narratives of crisis and collapse, we anchor our work in a sense of possibility. Our approach cultivates critical hope, a belief that better futures are not only imaginable, but buildable.

Social Justice

Social Justice

We approach climate and sustainability challenges through a justice-oriented lens. Learners are trained to interrogate power structures, identify patterns of exclusion and vulnerability, and design responses that prioritise equity, participation, and redistribution.

With origins rooted in research and evolved through practice.

2020

Establishing Transitions Research

We began as a social science research collective in Goa, focusing on the overlooked engines of urbanization: India's mid-sized cities.

2021-23

The Living Labs (PULL)

Launching People's Urban Living Labs (PULL) in cities like Panaji and Kolhapur, we co-created real-world solutions, from flood mitigation to cycling infrastructure, with local corporations.

2023

Identifying the Capacity Gap

As we handed over projects to Urban Local Bodies, we observed that officials often lacked the specific technical training required to execute climate mandates on the ground.

PRESENT

Launching Monsoon Academy

We formalised these insights into professional fellowships for government officials and career accelerators for young graduates. Today, we are actively training cohorts to bridge the gap between policy and implementation.

We are part of Transitions Research

An inter-disciplinary team based in Goa working on the interface of technology, society and sustainability. We have worked across 35+ cities impacting social dimensions of transitions such as urbanisation, climate change and digitalisation, that marks our time today.

Led by the people designing your journey.
