Raising the groundforce to drive sustainability transitions
We bridge the gap between ambition and capacity.
Through deep knowledge and foundational mindsets
Collective Agency
We view change as a collective endeavour. Our learning ecosystems are designed to foster collaboration, peer support, and shared ownership of outcomes. Learners are encouraged to build solidarities, work across disciplines, and act in concert with others to drive systemic transformation.
Future-Mindedness
In an era marked by rapid transitions and deep uncertainty, we prioritise the ability to think and act with foresight. Our programs incorporate scenario thinking, systems mapping, and anticipatory frameworks that enable learners to orient their actions toward long-term, sustainable futures.
Behavioural Change
Sustainable change requires shifts in behaviours, norms, and institutional cultures. Our pedagogy integrates behavioural science enabling learners to design interventions that are not only technically sound but also socially resonant and actionable.
Optimism
Amid narratives of crisis and collapse, we anchor our work in a sense of possibility. Our approach cultivates critical hope, a belief that better futures are not only imaginable, but buildable.
Social Justice
We approach climate and sustainability challenges through a justice-oriented lens. Learners are trained to interrogate power structures, identify patterns of exclusion and vulnerability, and design responses that prioritise equity, participation, and redistribution.
With origins rooted in research and evolved through practice.
Establishing Transitions Research
We began as a social science research collective in Goa, focusing on the overlooked engines of urbanization: India's mid-sized cities.
The Living Labs (PULL)
Launching People's Urban Living Labs (PULL) in cities like Panaji and Kolhapur, we co-created real-world solutions, from flood mitigation to cycling infrastructure, with local corporations.
Identifying the Capacity Gap
As we handed over projects to Urban Local Bodies, we observed that officials often lacked the specific technical training required to execute climate mandates on the ground.
Launching Monsoon Academy
We formalised these insights into professional fellowships for government officials and career accelerators for young graduates. Today, we are actively training cohorts to bridge the gap between policy and implementation.

Vikrom is Founding Director of Transitions Research. He conducts multidisciplinary research and policy analysis at the interface of technology, society and sustainability. His research explores the role of human choice and societal decision making in face of normative and scientific uncertainty. Vikrom set up India's first urban living lab to test socio-technical innovation in the real-life laboratory of cities and neighborhoods. His ongoing research examines the social dimension of climate change in India - how do we deeply and rapidly alter politics, norms, attitudes, behaviour and incentives to act? He also researches norms and institutions that can help manage environmental opportunities and challenges associated with emerging technologies. He received his Doctor of Philosophy degree from Oxford University, Institute for Science, Society and Innovation. Vikrom is Senior Fellow of the Observer Research Foundation, India, Senior Fellow of Centre for Social and Behavioral Change and Associate Fellow of the Stockholm Environment Institute.

Bharath Haridas is a Strategic Design Fellow at Transitions Research. His work focuses on applying strategic design, human-centred methods, and systems thinking to bridge research, policy, and societal action within sustainability transitions. Drawing on over a decade of experience in innovation consulting, service design, and cross-sector collaboration (including climate, agriculture, and health). he develops research tools, communication strategies and experiential learning experiences. At Transitions Research, Bharath contributes his expertise to designing behavioural interventions for the People's Urban Living Lab (PULL) and crafting learning journeys for the Monsoon Academy. He holds a Master of Fine Arts in Interdisciplinary Design from the California College of the Arts.

Angelina Chamuah is the Programme Director of one of Transitions Research's initiatives, Future Foresight. Her work focuses on the social and ethical dimensions of technologies in the 4IR. Bringing a Science, Technology and Society (STS) lens to the study of AI and digital technologies, she works on the intersections of AI, sustainability futures and the platform economy. In her prior research roles, she has worked extensively on the use of AI in India across diverse sectors of agriculture, health, education and cities. Her work extends to the core of the data and human infrastructures that ultimately make AI and other computational technologies tick. Some of her work on AI and other techno-social infrastructures have appeared in the Contributions to Indian Sociology, Economic and Political Weekly, The Print.
She holds an M.A. and M.Phil. in Sociology from the Delhi School of Economics, where her research explored questions of agency, design and power in building the 'social' dimension of human-machine interactions.

Shraddha More is a designer, artist, and researcher whose socially engaged practice seeks to disrupt societal structures, and knowledge hierarchies, by advocating for collective approaches. Within her work, she delves into socio-political themes of social justice. Her research interests focus on understanding the driving forces behind certain human behaviours within oppressive systems, utilising storytelling and play as methods to translate human values into tangible forms. This critical thinking is fundamental to her understanding of how society is changing and the role she, plays in influencing it. Her practice encompasses speculative thinking and social design, with the aim to provoke, challenge, and change perspectives. Shraddha is an Inlaks scholar for an MA in Design program from Goldsmiths, University of London, 2023 and she pursued her BFA in Painting from Sir J.J. School of Art, Mumbai, 2019.
